“So, I have been interested in solar technologies and renewable energy for a long time. I’ve been following Solar Roof ever since it was in Solar City and Tesla acquired it. When Elon announced his new product of an integrated system of tiles, I really bought into it and wanted to see where the technology has gone and over the past few years. It's really turned into something that I wanted to be a part of.

On this episode of Installing Solar Roof, I traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska to talk with Kevin about his new solar roof he bought with Weddle and Sons Roofing. We've never installed a Solar Roof on a duplex before so this one really stood out as a great example of making a Solar Roof work in places that might otherwise be seen as not possible. We had a great time working with Kevin and making his solar roof dream become a reality. Our team did a great job and installed all the tiles in just two days, making this a total of a three-day job counting tear off of the original roof.

So, I did the analysis on my electrical bills over a year and put together a general rolling average of what my consumption is, and with that we were able to come up with a base system that would cover about 60% of my annual average use.

Because of the covid pandemic and some of the energy crisis that we saw over the past year…what it can do if we don't take precautions for our energy supply…. like if one of our grid providers goes down, the choices for utilities to cut utilization are to cut it from the people that participate in this program willingly or to make it an unwilling decision where we have rolling brownouts. So, it's something that people should be very aware of because it absolutely happened here in Lincoln. The experience with Weddle and Sons has been great! After meeting with sales about it and getting a rough idea of what things would look like you guys really took control of it and guided me through the process and helped me make an educated decision on what sort of system I wanted to put on. It was a very engaging conversation and I’m surprised at how quickly things really came together.”
